Fushun Barber

A roadside barber's stall built of plastic sheeting glows like a paper lantern — shadow-theatre inside, a man waiting his turn beside his bicycle, apples heaped on a tricycle cart. Photographed in the winter of 2005–06 in Fushun, the old coal city east of Shenyang. The map marks where this was made; twenty years on, the city will have made the spot into somewhere else.
